Ezekiel 33:30-32
"Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD."
"And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
"And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not."
Believers, as they may be called can be sensational in displaying their Faith. They are thrilled by the Prophet's message, but not saved by it. They may be excited to hear God's word without laying it to heart, eager to attend programmes as far as distance can take them only to slip back into the way they were before the programmes, except for the excitement. The talk of how wonderful the messages were may survive a week or so, this was the case with God's people at the time of Prophet Ezekiel. Take a longer look at the things you have heard and convicted about. Make a list of how many of those sound words of God and compare them realistically. Are we like those Israelites? They only loved to hear the prophet or pastor as may be common in our case, but they do not spend enough time to make sure they obey them. They may go as far as noting specific instructions for their life and this is very commendable but that is not the way out in itself.
We have become familiar with the leader, the pastor and General Overseer or Superintendent rather than Christ. Sadly, we do not take it as something lethal. Our nonchalant attitude has to stop "for Christ is coming for the bride, not the widow!" (Leonard Ravenhill)
Christ is coming to reward all kinds of believers, faithful and unfaithful. Do not forget!
According to the passage, what is the fate of this kind of believer?
What was God's verdict?
They would not possess the land God prepared for them. Our own land which we look forward to in Heaven. Our own mostly priced possession is a crown of righteousness, a new name and to reign with Christ.
It is time to sit up and become true breeds. We do not become better in attending meetings and Church programmes alone, but in seeing that each encounter makes an impact on our Christian journey. Let each and every message bring salvation, not sensations. Let us pray in every message and trust God to increase daily, growing in grace.
At the end of the day, may God find us faithful servants who kept his word till the very end of time, and usher us into his prepared place, in the name of Jesus. Amen. What has God spoken to you, which is not yet in practice?
Shalom.
